A relatively succesful flight in a co axial helicopter, was conducted by the Italian Corradino D'Ascanio, who flew a distance of half a mile at an altitude of 59 ft (18 m) for 8 minutes and 45 seconds. The helicopter had two contra-rotating coaxial rotors, which were controlled by flaps on booms trailing each blade near its tip. The blades used flap hinges.
