Description |
The 480B is a light, three-seater turbine engine helicopter derived from the 280FX airframe. As with all other Enstrom models, no hydraulic controls are used. The combination of the high inertia rotor system and the turbine engine gives the machine very pleasing flight capabilities.
Although the design of the Enstrom 480B is outstanding, with the same being true for its safety record, sales of the machine have not been as strong as for the piston based F280 line. In particular, in the last five to 10 years, the competition from new models like the turbine powered Robinson R66 has been enough to see off this outdated, but otherwise excellent, design. The 2008 financial crisis also contributed to the poor sales of the 480.
In January 2013, Enstrom was bought by the Chinese firm Chongqing Helicopter Investment Co.
