The EC130 is a single turbine, multipurpose light helicopter. This machine is based on the AS350 B3 Ecureuil airframe and was designed as its successor. Major improvements are the wider body with room for seven passengers and one pilot, and a fenestron tail (ducted fan) that makes the helicopter much quieter. Eurocopter also consulted tour operators during the development process, and the aircraft has an excellent external view and an automobile grade air conditioning system as a result.
The EC130 is also used for medical purposes because of its wide body. Eurocopter is still selling both the EC130 and the AS350 Ecureuil.
