The M80 is a good looking, two-seater, ultra-light helicopter created by the brothers Stefaan and Paul Masschelein. It was designed and developed by the Belgium company Masquito during the 1990s. In about 2002, Masquito decided to develop its own engine with the designation M2.6L.
The M80 never went into production due to certification problems and a lack of adequate financial reserves to resolve these issues (2003). It is yet another example of the fact that entering the helicopter market requires deep pockets and intimate knowledge of certification processes. There were four prototypes built.
A spin off company, ULPower Aero Engines, now produces engines.
